Donation to the Association of Disabled Mijenos ( A.D.I.M.I.)

ADIMI was legally formed in 1999 by parents of children with all levels of handicap within the Mijas district, filling a void in local services. The charity has received support from the Club La Costa, Smile Foundation and Mijas Town Hall, for the building of a new day centre for these young people ( mijenos). The purpose-built centre, scheduled to open this summer, will provide professional medical staff as well as resources for much-needed activities. Current activities include speech therapy, reading, sport, swimming, theatre, ceramics and painting. At the 2010 Annual General meeting, our Society agreed to donate 750 euros towards the purchase of materials for the art projects. Last summer, ADIMI invited members to attend their art room in Las Lagunas la Casa de Cultura. Michael and Yvonne Goodacre, together with Amanda Giles, saw for themselves the tremendous satisfaction and joy which 10 youngsters were experiencing that day. Following the visit, the visitors were presented with small ceramic plaques by the students, as a momento of their visit. It is anticipated that other members will be able to see the children's work for themselves, on completion of the Day Centre. Members may have noted from the " Society News " column of the Autumn NADFAS Magazine that the Leeds DFAS recently donated to an art project established by a local Disabled Society.
